1979 David Rubio Workshop Classical Guitar – Edward B. Jones

This historically significant classical guitar was made in 1979 in the David Rubio workshop and is attributed to Edward B. Jones, who specialized in guitar and lute construction while working with Rubio.

The instrument combines a spruce soundboard with Indian rosewood back and sides. Important original and period-appropriate details include the Rubio rosette and handmade David Rogers tuning machines. A Hiscox case is included.

DAVID RUBIO

David “José” Rubio was an influential English maker of guitars, lutes, harpsichords and bowed instruments. After working as a flamenco guitarist and spending time in Spanish guitar-making workshops, he began building instruments professionally during the 1960s.

After returning to England, Rubio worked closely with Julian Bream and established an important workshop in Oxfordshire. His instruments and teaching helped shape a generation of English guitar makers.

EDWARD B. JONES

Edward B. Jones began his instrument-making career with respected harpsichord maker Robert Goble. During six years in Goble’s workshop, he built harpsichords, clavichords, spinets and other historical keyboard instruments.

In 1973, Jones joined David Rubio’s workshop, where he specialized in guitars and lutes. He remained there until 1979, when he established his own workshop in Steeple Aston, Oxfordshire.
