Otto Vowinkel Concert Model (2026) Classical Guitar
ALEN’S ASSESSMENT
This 2026 Concert Model combines a spruce soundboard with cocobolo back and sides. Built in Otto Vowinkel’s traditional style, it offers a light and responsive playing experience, clear vibrato, singing trebles and deep, well-defined basses.
The instrument is designed for tonal flexibility and musical depth rather than volume alone. Alessi tuning machines, French-polished shellac and a hard case complete this professional concert guitar.
Recommended for advanced players, conservatory students and professional guitarists seeking clarity, responsiveness, precise intonation and a refined traditional concert voice.
THE LUTHIER
Otto Vowinkel began building guitars in Amsterdam in 1984, initially working with hand tools and Irving Sloane’s the book Classical Guitar Construction as his guide. His early instruments developed through continual feedback from professional guitarists.
During the late 1980s, his collaboration with Dutch luthier Alex “Alejandro” van der Horst helped refine his concept of the ideal classical guitar: fast response, tonal flexibility and musical depth.
Vowinkel’s guitars combine traditional construction with distinctive Amsterdam-inspired details. His rosettes incorporate a motif from the Amsterdam flag, while his headstock design reflects the façade of his workshop. His instruments are valued for their responsiveness, balanced tonal colour and precise craftsmanship.
